MAKING offensive calls on the 999 system has cost a 21-year-old man £80.
The fixed penalty notice was handed out to the man, who was arrested after making obscene comments to Staffordshire Police control room staff.
"Staffordshire Police willl not tolerate offensive or obscene calls by people who are abusing the 999 system," said a police spokesman.
"We always seek to take swift action using appropriate means, such as penalty notices.
"We will if necessary put offenders before the court."
