ALSAGER First Responders has received a welcome cash boost from a local pre-school.

Dawn Evans from the group was presented with a cheque for £1,900 by Excalibur Play and Learn Pre-School.

The pre-school originally started to raise funds for a child who attended the pre-school, and who had a severe medical condition.

It raised funds for a defibrillator during 2007 and this year, during which time the child underwent surgery.

Pre-school’s owner and manager, Sue Heeley, said due to a combination of circumstances the decision was taken not to buy the defibrillator, but to donate all the money to Alsager First Responders.

“People have been very generous,” said Sue.

“Staff, parents, local businesses and charities have all stepped up to the mark when they heard about the child and their problems.

“Unfortunately, due to mitigating circumstances, we were unable to continue with the original plan to purchase a defibrillator, and I had to find a deserving charity to benefit from the money.

“My first thought was Alsager First Responders.

“I wanted the money to remain in the village to benefit the people of Alsager, and I had personal experience of the First Responders and knew of the fabulous work they do.

“I was more than delighted when they informed me they needed funds to support their life-saving work.

“We were able to raise this fabulous sum of money due to the benevolence of local people, who donated or organised events such as Virgin Vie nights, which were very successful.”
