ANDY Whitney was Alsager Town’s hero on Saturday as he grabbed a last-minute winner.
The 1-0 home victory for the Bullets over 11th-placed Squires Gates saw them go unbeaten in the league in November.
The win also lifted them to ninth place in the table.
The winner came when Alsager centre forward Dean Williams chased what seemed a lost cause to the byline.
He won the ball from a Squires defender before laying it off to strike partner Whitney, who stroked it home.
Just 31 spectators braved the freezing conditions at Wood Park, and saw Alsager start brightly.
Williams and Whitney both went close before winger Scott Taylor broke clear and was brought down in the Squires box by their centre half Ford.
Ford was sent off, but Bullets skipper Lee Jones lost his footing and blasted the penalty over the bar.
Ten-man Squires changed their formation, and appeared happy to defend in the hope of taking a point.
Six local youngsters met the Alsager players and received signed balls before having a kickabout with the players.
The youngsters came to watch the match after the club had sent a mail shot to local schools to encourage more children to come and see the Bullets in action.
Alsager’s next match is next Saturday, December 13, at seventh-placed Silsden.
