James Franco stars in Spring Breakers
James Franco has said he based his Spring Breakers character partly on an obscure white rapper known as Dangerous.
The actor spoke after the film's US premiere at the South by Southwest film festival. James plays a Florida gangster who interrupts the plans of a group of bikini-clad college girls.
He said the rapper Dangerous "really just shared his life with me" for the role.
The Hollywood star may be best known as a bad guy in the original Spider-Man trilogy, but he's also shown he can play a wide range of characters.
His new film focuses on sex and violence in pop culture. Asked whether it should be viewed as satire, James said: "It does have its cake and eat it too."
