Christian Bale has admitted he had to put up with some teasing from his daughter after piling on weight for his American Hustle role.

The Batman actor gained more than 40lbs to play con artist Irving Rosenfeld in the critically acclaimed crime drama - a performance which has earned him a Golden Globe nomination - and said his eight-year-old daughter Emmeline has "found it funny", reported The Sun.

"Having a big old gut and a bald head, she would slap it and tease me," he confessed.

"She had lots of fun and found it amusing."

Christian is no stranger to weight loss, having famously lost a whopping 62lbs to star in psychological thriller The Machinist in 2004.

But the 39-year-old confessed he hasn't quite got back to his former buff self after plumping up for his latest role.

He explained: "I ate anything that came my way. I was 185lbs and went up to 228lbs. I'm still working it off."

American Hustle also stars Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawrence. It will be released at the Vue West End on December 20 and will be on general release on January 1, 2014.
