Matt Willis is joining the cast of EastEnders.

The 30-year-old chart star and presenter - who will play a series of shows with McBusted in the new year - is to take on the role of Luke, the boyfriend of Stacey Branning, who is played by Lacey Turner.

Matt is filming his first scenes for the BBC One soap this week and programme bosses said he would be heading to Walford for a "short stint".

He said of his new TV role: "I am so thrilled to be a part of such an iconic show. I grew up watching EastEnders so this is really exciting for me!"

Matt is among a number of new faces joining the show, including screen hardman Danny Dyer, who will soon be seen as incoming Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter.

Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said: "I've always loved Matt and it will be a real treat for viewers to watch him and Lacey together on screen as part of her return to the Square. Luke gives as good as he gets, so is a great foil to Stacey. Pity she's been lying to him since the day she met him."

The character is described as an ambitious young man who is devoted to his girlfriend, but their relationship proves to be far from plain sailing. He will be seen on screen early next year.

Matt has recently filmed scenes for the ITV return of Birds Of A Feather and has established a presenting career after triumphing in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! following the demise of his group, Busted.

The star and his former bandmates are linking up with McFly for their forthcoming gigs.
