Cate Blanchett has revealed she had to return all her fancy clothes after filming Blue Jasmine.
The Australian actress, who faces Dame Judi Dench, Amy Adams, Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock in the fight for the best actress Oscar for her portrayal of a disgraced socialite in Woody Allen's latest film, admitted she wasn't allowed to keep any of the designer items.
"They all had to go back at midnight! Everything had to go back," she said.
"I think the entire costume budget was less than the Hermes bag, which was also borrowed. Suzy Benzinger, who worked on the film, was extraordinary.
"To me, it's such a fruitful and creative relationship one has with the costume designer because there is very little rehearsal time when you film. So it's a very fruitful relationship with a costume designer when you get to try things on and begin to walk around in the character's shoes, literally."
Blue Jasmine marks Cate's 16th Oscar nod, and she revealed she still can't believe it.
"This one certainly took me by surprise. I threw myself at the role and whenever you do that, you're a bit nervous and trepidatious about the results because you're working deeply," she said.
"But it's always a thrill - particularly because I've been away from the industry so long. It's nice to know that I can return to it. So I'm excited."
The 44-year-old added: "Sometimes you're ready to take a role by teeth really and having worked so long and intensively in theatre, it felt to me like a synthesis of my work on stage and my work on the screen. And these opportunities don't come around every day so I relish them."
