Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o and Amy Adams were among the fashion winners at Hollywood's biggest awards show as they dazzled on the Oscars red carpet.
The women stood out in bold colours among a sea of nude coloured dresses as they made their way into the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
American Hustle star Jennifer, who was nominated in the best supporting actress category, chose a narrow red Dior gown with a peplum in the hope she would be able to stay on her feet throughout the night - but to no avail.
Last year she tripped over in a huge pale pink dress with a long train as she made her way to the stage to collect her best actress Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook.
Speaking to American network ABC on the red carpet, Jennifer said: "This year I did a staircase test up the back staircase and I didn't trip up so it worked." However, the 23-year-old still managed to take a tumble on her way into the ceremony.
Lupita, who won the best supporting actress category for her role in 12 Years A Slave, chose a Grecian-style ice blue Prada dress with a silver headband.
The newcomer told ABC said she chose the colour because it reminded her of Nairobi: "We were inspired by where I grew up with a lot of blue around me. I feel very at home in this gown."
Also in blue was another best actress nominee, Amy, who wore a navy blue strapless gown by Gucci Premiere with Tiffany jewellery.
Sandra Bullock, whose film Gravity was the dominant winner at this year's awards, was another fashion winner despite her sartorial slip-ups at past Oscars, which included a white feather Oscar de la Renta dress in 2004. Her Alexander McQueen navy gown with a short train was everything an Oscar dress should be - sophisticated, stylish and sexy.
Similarly, Kate Hudson's pearl white Atelier Versace dress brought a touch of old Hollywood glamour to the affair.
Best actress winner Cate Blanchett wore a nude coloured beaded Armani dress.
Also in nude were Diana star Naomi Watts, Veronica Mars actress Kristen Bell, Arrested Development star Portia de Rossi and television presenter Kelly Osbourne.
Flying the fashionable flag for Britain in the style stakes was Emma Watson in a metallic gunmetal black Vera Wang dress. The Bling Ring and Harry Potter star wore red lipstick with the outfit, demonstrating that the talented actress knows her fashion.
While most of the male actors chose a classic black tuxedo, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, who both won Oscars for Dallas Buyers Club, chose white jackets.
Singer Pharrell Williams made the unusual choice of teaming his traditional jacket and bow tie with Bermuda-length shorts.
