Brand cancels shows as mum ill

Russell Brand has cancelled shows because his mum is battling breast cancer.

The comedian was due to perform his world tour show at the Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry on Thursday (March 6) and to a sold-out crowd at the Assembly Rooms in Derby tonight (March 7), but pulled out of both. He also recently axed a performance in Glasgow blaming "family reasons", reported the Daily Star.

Russell has now tweeted: "Sorry to eff you around with gigs. My mum ain't well. Tix will be honoured or refunded."

And he said on his The Trews video blog: "My mother has currently got breast cancer."

Russell is very close to mum Barbara, who has reportedly battled cancer before.

Meanwhile, Russell is due to discuss drugs and addiction with Oprah Winfrey on US TV.

The star is campaigning for more compassionate treatment of drug addiction, and the Mirror reported that he will appear on Oprah's show in an episode to be screened at the weekend.
