Paralympic champion Dame Sarah Storey has been named Celebrity Mum of the Year - and immediately dished out some parenting advice to Simon Cowell: "He needs to get his hands dirty."

The 11-time Paralympic champion was crowned at a star-studded ceremony in The Savoy Hotel in central London on Sunday.

Dame Sarah, 36, was asked whether she thought music mogul Cowell was missing out after he reportedly said he does not change his son's nappies.

"I think he's missing out. I think there's so much time you can spend bonding with a baby when they lie on their back kicking, and hopefully laughing.

"You sing to them, there's time to interact with them, play, teach them where their nose is, play head, shoulders, knees and toes.

"All those times when they're lying on a change mat is an opportunity to teach them something as well, so yeah, I think he's missing out.

"He needs to get his hands dirty," she said.

Even before the birth of his son with New York socialite Lauren Silverman, Cowell told BBC Breakfast: "I'm not doing that, 100% absolutely not going near that," he told the show, and asked whether he would delegate to someone else, he replied: "Of course."

The celebrity world and its mother were out to show appreciation for mums at the Tesco Mum of The Year Awards 2014.

Sport stars, actors and singers turned out at the famous central London location - some accompanied by their own mothers.

Familiar faces including Coleen Rooney, Gareth Gates and Olympic boxing gold medallist Luke Campbell donned their gladrags for the event, which is taking place just a week before Mother's Day.
