January Jones has revealed audiences should not expect a happy ending for her Mad Men character.
The X-Men star resumes her role of Betty Francis in the 1960s drama when the show returns for the final series, but said she does not know what the future holds for her.
Speaking on the red carpet at the season premiere in Los Angeles, the blonde beauty said: "I don't know that Matt (creator Matthew Weiner) would ever write anyone a "happy ending", we are probably just going to end it at one moment in time and not wrap anyone's story up in a neat little bow. I don't know where he is going to take it but I doubt that would ever happen and we would see a happy ever after."
January will say goodbye to the role of Don Draper's ex-wife with the final series planned and she said it will be a wrench.
"It has been a massive gift, any time you are given a piece of writing, whether it's a movie or anything else, and there is no way I can replicate anything like this as a learning experience or as a character to see someone grow like that.
"I think the saddest thing for me will be when this ends and I never get to play her again and speak in her voice. I'm very proud of her and how she has grown and of me too."
Comparing her experiences on the hit TV show to those on a big budget movie set like X-Men, January said: "Something with a huge budget is very different but Mad Men shoots a lot like an independent movie and I prefer that to waiting around in my trailer playing video games, but I like the big trailer on those movies."
Mad Men returns to Sky Atlantic at 10pm on Wednesday April 16.
