Cowell: Pressure will be on Cheryl

Simon Cowell has said Cheryl Cole will be feeling the heat in the new series of The X Factor.

The Crazy Stupid Love singer is returning to the panel of the UK talent show after she quit to appear on the American version in 2011 - only to be sacked after a week.

Simon is also returning to the judging panel on the ITV show this year, as part of a shake up to tackle flagging ratings.

He told the Sunday People: "Of course the pressure is going to be on Cheryl this year, coming back after a break. All eyes are going to be on her, but she is ready for it. She's going to be great."

He added: "We're both looking forward to sitting together on the panel again."

Cheryl was booted off American X Factor after a week amid reports she was a flop with US audiences, who struggled to understand her Geordie accent. She then snubbed Simon's offer to return to the UK panel, and went on to sue the X Factor's American producers in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit for her unpaid two-year salary, plus expenses.

She and Simon will be joined by Mel B and Louis Walsh on the show this year.

The 54-year-old TV and music mogul - who has just celebrated his first Father's Day with four-month-old son Eric - also revealed he wants baby Eric to take over his business empire from him when he is old enough.

Simon said: "In all seriousness he's going to do what I do. In time he's going to inherit my business."
