2.8% rise for many Barclays staff
Barclays is removing counters from its branches, with staff helping customers on iPads rather than from behind a window
Thousands of Barclays Bank workers are being promoted and will receive a 2.8% pay rise under moves to reflect the "changing nature" of banking.
A new post of community banker will be introduced, replacing cashiers.
Barclays said staff will have more time to support customers by being more "flexible and empowered".
The bank added that branches were having counters removed, with staff helping customers on iPads rather than from behind a window.
Steven Cooper, chief executive of Barclays Personal Banking, said: "We know that really helping customers requires a lot of valuable people skills and this change is about investing in our workforce and recognising their talents."
