David Cameron has telephoned Chile's president Sebastian Pinera at the rescue scene of 33 trapped miners.
Mr Pinera thanked the British Prime Minister for his support and said he was looking forward to visiting the UK next week.
He said: "You cannot imagine how people are feeling here when they come out of the bowel of the earth, and they come out so strong, with so much faith."
He continued: "It really has been something magic. We will never forget this night."
He added: "David, thank you very much for your kind words, and we are also following your inspiring experience in England.
"I hope I will see you next week. Next Monday we will be in Downing Street Number 10 visiting you."
Earlier at Prime Minister's Questions in the Commons, Mr Cameron paid tribute to the rescue effort.
He said: "I'm sure everyone would like me to, on their behalf, send best wishes to the president and people of Chile as they celebrate the trapped miners coming to the surface and the glorious pictures we can see on our television screens."
The last of the Chilean miners was later rescued, ending the amazing rescue at the San Jose mine in just under 22 hours. All 33 men have now been delivered from the longest underground entrapment in history.
The foreman who held the group together when they were feared lost was the last man out. Luis Alberto Urzua was hoisted to safety in a joyous climax to a flawless rescue that captivated the world
