Onions faces possible lay-off

England seamer Graham Onions is facing a possible spell on the sidelines with a back problem, but Durham are hoping it will not be a long lay-off.

Onions, who returned from a career-threatening back injury four years ago, felt discomfort during the ongoing LV= County Championship Division One match against Sussex at Hove.

Durham coach Jon Lewis revealed the 31-year-old is awaiting the results of scans, having managed to bowl only eight overs in Sussex's first innings.

"Graham has had a scan on his back at a hospital close to the ground," Lewis told durhamccc.co.uk.

"It's been looked at by (physiotherapist) Nigel Kent, but we are still waiting for the radiographer to tell us the results.

"We're hoping it won't be a long absence, but he may require some time away from the field."
