REGARDING Sainsbury's plans to open in Biddulph, this sounds like a huge misjudgement of the retail market in this area.
With Tesco expanding their shop in Congleton and a successful Asda in Tunstall there is no customer base for a shop like Sainsbury.
Before moving to Biddulph I lived in Macclesfield for over 40 years and I found the target customer for Sainsbury to be very different from that for Asda, Somerfield or Tesco.
I predict this shop will close within two years and lose a fortune.
I know there is a large superstore defined in the Local Plan, but I had assumed the Biddulph council would be a bit more pragmatic in their choice of retailer.
I would have expected a larger Co-op or Somerfield to replace the ones that will go in the re-building - or is that too much like common sense?
I will continue buying fruit and veg from a local greengrocer, meat from a local butcher and have the rest delivered to my door by Tesco.
